Busy Week

It has been a really busy week for me.  Not just at work but also with starting the 2 night classes.

Anatomy and Physiology on Tuesday is going to involve a lot of studying - learning all about bones just now! The actual massage class last night was really good.  Learned how to massage the front of the leg! We got a list of what we have to wear/look while in the 'salon' - suffice to say I'll have to do some shopping this weekend for a suitable 'outfit' and also some nail clippers!

Managed to squeeze in making a couple of very easy wrap bracelets -

One will be for me and one for the first friend who says 'ooh can you make me one of those'!

Also made another tartan pin/brooch - Baird Ancient Tartan this time (a sort of turquoise theme this week all round!)

Anyway it's Friday! So enjoy the weekend.

Bracelet

Rustled up a little bracelet for myself yesterday - well there is a little white lie there - it was to be for someone else but I liked it! (I will of course may another one for said person!)

Very easy to make - cord, beads, cross and clasp.

It has to be a snug fit on the wrist so it doesn't turn.  Really pleased with how it turned out and it didn't take long at all to make.

Have a good day - and a happy long weekend if you are one of the lucky people who have a day off on Monday. (I don't! grrr)

Bracelet

It has been a while since I've posted a jewellery project. I made this bracelet for a friend's birthday which is this month.

It's the first time I've made something from a pre-packaged kit and I will say it was good to have everything you needed in the one bag instead of my usual searching around for what I need!

I was pleased with how it turned out and hope she will be too.  I think I may make one for myself!  Now I know what is needed, I could just buy the materials separately and at once so I can vary the colours and maybe adapt it a bit to make it a little different.

Loving this sunny weather especially as the weekend is upon us - nearly!

Handmade Monday 66

The week really flies past.  I have been trying to organise things for my holiday on Thursday and think I have most things ready - all holiday clothes washed and ironed and ready for case, passport located (finally), money changed, holiday insurance bought.  I did notice however that I was lacking in some bits and pieces of jewellery to take with me so this weekend I made a few pieces:

The top necklace is made simply from a white ribbon and a basic knot between beads and then a white focal bead in the centre, no catch, it just slips over my head.   The bottom necklace was slightly more involved, made by crocheting firstly with a ribbon yarn and then beads crocheted in after this.  It will tie with a bow at the back of the neck.

Also crocheted a little flower bracelet - really simple, 4 flowers attached on to a silver plated bracelet.

So people I will see you in 2 weeks and will catch up with the 2 handmade Mondays I will miss while away.  I'm heading over to Handmade Harbour to see what everyone has been up to this week.

See you all soon!

Daisy Bracelet/Handmade Monday

It has been a kind of up and down weekend for me - in a way literally! Continued with the ceiling painting and have almost finished the second coat - ran out of paint and unfortunately ran out after Wicks was closed.  Didn't want to get paint from somewhere else just in case it is a slightly different colour (even though I am painting the ceiling a magnolia colour not sure if different places have a slightly different shade) so will need to get more today.

Also, Saturday morning found a leak on one of the pipes in the bathroom - a really awkward (isn't it always) one behind the toilet so have been emptying this little bowl which is collecting the drip all weekend.  Unfortunately where the leak is I can only fit a shallow bowl so am a bit dreading going to work and having to leave it till I come home tonight - it will definitely overflow.  But there really isn't a lot I can do - I don't have enough time a lunch time to cycle home and back so will just have to leave it till 5.30pm.  The plumber is coming tonight (fingers crossed) and I'm hoping that's the only tradesman I'll need!

Saturday morning I helped out my friend who has a kilt shop - this was really good fun and interesting learning how to measure for kilt size. There are lots of tartans to learn - they have 65 of them in the shop!

I haven't got a lot of makes this week - been working on things but this bracelet is really the only completed item:

This is what it looks like on - very spring like I think - having said that, the forecast is for snow today! (Can't believe it after the lovely spring weather we have had over the last 2 weeks.)

Anyway, better go and check the 'drip' then get ready for work.

Pop over to 1st Unique Gifts to see what everyone else has been up to this week - and have a great week and a good holiday weekend.  We have Friday and Monday off so will be a nice break.

Spring Bracelet

Spring definitely feels like it is here!  These last few days the weather has been lovely.  Hoping it will last to the Easter weekend.

Following on from my necklace I have made a bracelet to match mixing crochet and metal.

I am enjoying working with cotton yarn and pleased with how this turned out.  It is really comfortable to wear and am working on a few different designs based on this basic idea.

House wise have started painting my kitchen ceiling (finally!).  It is a bit of a task as the ceiling is high and involves me standing on the top rung of the step ladder which is a bit scary and also involves an awful lot of 'up ladder paint a bit', 'down, move ladder', 'up ladder paint as bit' etc you get the idea! So its not exactly a quick job, however I have finally started.  It will unfortunately probably be 3 coats of paint.

Handmade Monday - running late!

I am running so late with my handmade Monday post this week - where does the time go?!

Seem to have lost a filling/broken a bit of tooth over the weekend so feel like I have a 'gaping chasm' in my mouth but in reality we are probably talking a few millimetres! Forced to call the dentist to arrange an appointment to get it looked at - mainly as my tongue is getting scratched to pieces on the rough edge.  I remember the day when you could call your dentist and they would just tell you to pop round - not any more apparently.  I could only get Wednesday or Friday - both at really inconvenient times!  Plumped for Wednesday as I'm not sure I could put up with this till Friday!

On the making front, I made a few bracelets this weekend. One with a slight Valentine's theme - but not so much that you couldn't wear it everyday.

This next bracelet wraps around the wrist twice -

Son has been home this week as he had nothing much to do before an exam on Thursday and then classes restart on 30 Jan so it has been a nice week having someone here when I come in from work.

Equipment failure!

Well I missed Handmade Monday due to my camera's connection with my computer!  For some reason when I tried to download the picture I had taken the computer kept saying 'no pictures or videos detected' but when I looked at the camera I could see the picture there!  Faffed around with it yesterday to no avail, however today I tried something (copied the picture to the internal memory) and low and behold the picture appeared on the computer.  Just a day too late for handmade Monday though!

I thought I'd make something 'valentine-ish' for the website and came up with these bracelets.  I used bamboo yarn for the purple one and a crochet cotton for the black heart (not too easily seen on the picture that it is actually a heart!) and the red and black one is crochet cotton and embroidery silk.  Was pleased with how they turned out.  They are crocheted into chain. Not over-the-top valentine looking - you could wear all year round.

Yesterday was the first real day back at work after the holiday break - well actually we were back on Friday 6th but it didn't really feel like the first day back as it was only the office staff who were at work! Plus, it was a Friday so it was only one day then off again!  But we are definitely back now!  It always feels that Christmas has passed in a flash when I go back to work in January - we spend ages preparing for it then it is gone in a flash!

Ah well, roll on spring!

Handmade Monday

Well it has been a busy week work-wise (but I'm not thinking of work as I'll be back there tomorrow!).  I didn't even have time this week to do a mid-week post.  Never mind, some weeks will be like that.

On Saturday night I had a visitor over night - Jess, my daughter's dog.  Fortunately Mindy and Jess get on well though I'm sure Mindy has her own thoughts on Jess!  (Jess constantly eats Mindy's food!)  Walking them both together can be difficult as I definitely feel that my left arm is slightly longer after a walk due to the pulling!

I found a good blog that has some great crochet patterns.  I haven't ever tried to write out a crochet pattern but maybe I will try that.  I have crocheted something this week as a present to take down to my sister in law on Wednesday - unfortunately as they read this blog I can't post a picture!  Gift pictures will have to be another time!

I'm also involved in a Christmas decoration 'swap' on another blog - just in case someone who reads this is involved in it too, better not post pictures of that either!  Heck, what a picture-less blog this week!

I did take this picture though when I was out walking with Mindy one night this week.  I really liked the colours of the sky and the way they looked through this tree.

I have been making a new style of bracelet this week and I like the style and the fact that it can be for anyone (man, woman, child!) depending on the beads used.  It took a bit of concentration to work out how to make it but am getting quicker!

Anyway, pop over to 1st Unique Gifts to see what everyone else has been up to this week.

I will blog about my upcoming trip down to Cambridge when I get back. I am looking forward to finding some new bead and wool shops.

Have a great week!

Work in Progress

Just a quick post tonight to let you see what I've been working on this week.  Am trying to come up with something different jewellery-wise so have incorporated some fabric into this bracelet.  It has organza and some ribbon type yarn making up the main part and I'm incorporating some sparkly beads on to it.  I have been working a little bit each night on it so it is taking me ages but due to time factors in the week I don't have a lot of time!

Plan to do some more sparkly crystal beading on it.  Think it would look nice with that little black dress at the festive season.

Ok time for bed now (the good thing is, it is Friday tomorrow!)

Beading

Just a few words this morning before I head to work.

I am actually really enjoying beading work.  I made this bracelet and ring last night - just made up the pattern and am only still using seed beads so as not to waste more expensive beads in my trials!

I need to find out how to attach clasps etc and how to finish off when using 'flex-rite' so this weekend will have a search for tutorials and instructions.

Hope everyone is looking forward to the weekend as much as I am!

Mich :)
