Frosty!

Today it was so cold on the cycle to work (and the cycle home really).  When I left the house today the temperature was -6.  Here is a picture of the cycle path:

It was very frosty and foggy.  Thankfully not icy though of course I was worried that it was.  I asked 'the texter' if the path was slippy and he said no - well that's my name for him - I see him every day on the cycle path with his 2 dogs and he's always texting someone on his phone - hence the nickname I've given him!  The next 'regular' I pass is 'the axe murderer' so called because he's an elderly man with a limp and he always has this little black bag,  (In reality, his sandwiches are probably in it!)

I then usually meet the 'little red riding hood lady' so called because of her red coat.  She has a little black scottie dog with her.  I usually stop and chat for a minute as she looks lonely and at first she would just nod and not say much, but now she chats a bit.  The dog is really lovely too - except when I'm on the bike as he then barks, but if I come off and talk to him he's fine.

Next, usually at the roundabout I pass 'sour faced woman ' who I have tried on several occasions to engage in some pleasant, general conversation while we are waiting for the traffic lights to change, but she never talks.  Finally, there is the 'smiling Chinese lady' - who always has a cheery 'good morning' for me.

These 'mad musings' help me pass the time on the way to work.  Coming home I don't usually see anyone!

When I got to work this morning my hands were so cold and sore despite my gloves I was almost crying. Must find a warmer pair for tomorrow.

Ok, going to relax now and watch some TV.

This Weather - no likey!

Well yesterday walked to work.  Thought it best to leave the bike at home.  Now while the walk was ok (all 50 mins of it) it was carrying all the stuff that is usually in my cycle bags that was the problem - my running stuff - tracksuit bottoms, t-shirt, fleece, running shoes and then to top it all I had a big carton of milk to take.  Come my lunchtime, the ice/snow (not too much snow just a dusting) hadn't cleared so decided not to risk running as was worried that my route by the river may be a tad worse than the pavements.

No matter if you say you are at lunch, if you are sitting at your desk you are really not at lunch.  The phone rings, your boss asks you things etc.  I really missed getting away from the confines of the office for 45 mins.  So today, come snow or ice I am running! (or walking if its really bad!)

I am taking my bike today and will just go carefully.  The main road will probably be less slippy than the cycle path - but its a case of weighing up where it would be worse to slip if it should happen and probably that would be the cycle path!

I left work yesterday at 4.15 to go to the post office for stamps - big mistake as I got there at 4.55 but didn't get served till 5.25!  Everyone goes to the post office at that time! Never again.

I did get a little happy Christmas feeling when I passed the electric company offices -

So away to load up the bike and put on my very thick padded jacked which I hope will offer some protection should I end up in the grass verge!

Have a warm, safe day!
Mich :)
